Flagstaff is a coastal sea cliff composed primarily of Wealden Group sandstones and clays, dating to the Early Cretaceous period, around 140 to 130 million years ago. These rocks formed in a shallow, seasonal lake and floodplain environment and are notable for their exposure of terrestrial sediments that provide insights into ancient ecosystems and climate conditions.
