This blue commemorative plaque records: 1788 1988 First Fleet Two Whitby built ships the Fishburn and the Golden Grove, were amongst the the eleven vessels known as the First Fleet which reached Botany Bay in 1788 to found the first settlement in Australia
The First Fleet consisted of eleven ships that departed from England in 1788, carrying around 1,500 convicts, marines, and officers; it established the initial British colony at Sydney Cove, marking the beginning of European settlement in Australia.
