This black commemorative plaque records: Firestone Bay Artillery Tower. This small building formed part of a system of coastal defenses constructed upon "divers frontiers of the realme" during the reign of Henry VIII. 1509 - 1547 similar towers survive at Devils Point and Fishers Nose.

Firestone Bay Artillery Tower is one of several coastal defense structures built under King Henry VIII to protect England's southern coast from invasion, part of a broader military fortification initiative during his reign. Similar towers at Devils Point and Fishers Nose also stand as remnants of this historical defensive network.
