Field system in Oldtown (skreen By.),corballis (skreen By.)

Field system

What is recorded here

Oldtown (skreen By.) and corballis (skreen By.) hold a sixteen acre field system where abandoned banks and sharp scarps still cut through the soil. Drainage spoil has buried much of the work, yet the hidden lines suggest people shaped the land before forgetting it. A church may have stood there, calling neighbours across the green. The fields no longer answer to human memory, but they remain marked by the effort of hands that disappeared.
The following description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Meath' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1987). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 10 July 2007 Old field banks and scarps now largely covered with drainage spoil covering c. 16 acres. Church believed to have existed on site.

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
