Field boundary in Gortloughra

In rough hill grazing on bog, on a N-facing slope overlooking the valleys of the Gortloughra and Owvane Rivers. A network of relict stone field boundaries (T 0.6m; H 0.4m) occur along the hillside in this roughly rectangular area (c. 350m E-W; c. 150m N-S). In general the walls are curvilinear and discontinuous. The walls are visible in the areas of cutaway bog and elsewhere, in uncut bog, where they protrude intermittently above the surface. An enclosure (CO092-062001-) and a hut site (CO092-062002-) are within the E half of the field boundary network. The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Cork.
