Field boundary in Derroograne

In rough hill pasture, on bog covered with moor grass, on a W-facing slope overlooking Glengarriff Harbour. The remains of a network of mainly collapsed, relict, stone field boundaries (T 0.65m; H 0.4m) protrude above the surface of the bog throughout an area measuring c. 350m N-S x c. 200m E-W. The walls comprise both linear and curvilinear stretches, and occasionally disappear under deeper bog in wet hollow areas. While the walls are generally in a jumbled state, several slabs set upright at right angles to the line of the wall were noted. Two hut sites (CO091-016004-, CO091-016006-), a fulacht fia (CO091-016005-) and a burnt mound (CO091-016007-) are within the network of relict field boundaries.
