Field boundary in Derreenataggart Commons

In rough hill grazing on a mantle of blanket bog, on an E-facing slope. A relict stone field boundary (L c. 75m; T 0.65m; H 0.75m) winds in a general E-W direction, passing two fulachtaí fia (CO115-137003-, CO115-137006-) to the S and a hut site (CO115-137002-), a burnt mound (CO115-137001-) and another fulacht fia (CO115-137007-) to the N. Another relict wall (L c. 95m) branches off the W portion of the initial stretch and winds in a S and then a SE direction. The relict walls consist of base stones which are embedded in the bog (D max. 0.5m). Some of the surviving base stones are set upright at right angles to the line of the wall. Short sections of the relict walls disappear beneath the surface of the bog. The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Cork.
