What is recorded here

Clear sky and hard facts. It stands half a metre high after centuries of weather, marking the edge between Ballynamought and Coomclogh while ending at deep bog. The stones are not a complete wall for a modern farm; they are a saved line from a smaller, older landscape. People may have walked that ridge, measured land or simply kept two neighbourhoods apart. The bog took the rest.
This c. 200m of relict field boundary runs from high on a ridge in the Shehy Mountains down slope to the southeast where it ends at the edge of an area of deep bog. It also forms part of a townland boundary between Ballynamought to the west and Coomclogh to the east. It survives to a maximum height of c.0.6m and is mostly built of dry-stone walling with a more squared face on the western side. In places it is covered in a thin layer of turf and one stretch seems to have been built of earth only. It runs c.25m to the west of a hut site and crosses a small gully of drier land where it has been partially rebuilt. Compiled by: Tony Miller Date of upload/revision: 4 March 2022
