Field boundary in Ballynamought

Field boundary

What is recorded here

Half a stone wall and a ghost line still mark the edge of the Ballynamought green, beside a hut circle and old sheep fold. The first section ran north for twenty-two metres before ploughs erased it; the second climbed fourteen metres along a steep scarp at the green’s northwest corner. Together they outline a small managed place where people kept sheep, built a hut and left a boundary half-hidden under grass.
Two sections of relict field boundary partially surround a cleared ‘green’ area. One section c. 22m in length, running N from an upstanding E-W boundary ending just where a track meets the green area. It has been leveled to the ground. At the northwest corner of this green area a second short section of relict field boundary was recorded . It was c.14m in length and was built along the top of a steep scarp. A hut site is c.12m to the northwest of this relict boundary and there is an historic sheep fold further to the east. Compiled by: Tony Miller Date of upload/revision: 4 March 2022
