This stone commemorative plaque records: Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy born at Hamburg 1809 died 1847, composed "The Rivulet" in 1829 while visiting Mr Henry Taylor who rented Coed-Du. Charles Kingsley born at Holne Vicarage, Devon, 1819, died 23rd Jany 1875, frequently walked along "The Leet".
Felix Mendelssohn was a prominent German composer of the Romantic period, renowned for compositions like "The Rivulet" and for revitalizing interest in Bach's music through his performance of the St. Matthew Passion.
