Fedderate Castle is an L-shaped tower house built by William de Craufurd after 1474, standing in a field where scallop shells still mark the place where people lived and ate. A causeway and drawbridge once crossed a water-filled ditch, but a siege in 1690 broke part of the walls and by 1732 it was already a ruin. A stone dated 1257 was removed in 1830, hinting that an older castle may have stood there before, while the lost moat and bridge have faded so completely that only a faint line in the ground remains to suggest they existed.
