This blue commemorative plaque records: Sarah Cox, later known as Fanny Cornforth. Model, Companion, Nurse and friend to Dante Gabriel Rossetti, Pre-Raphaelite painter was born here on 3rd January 1835 (date and place of death unknown). Sarah was the model featured in Rossetti's best known painting "The Blue Bower, 1865" Recorded plaque organisation: Steyning History Society.
Fanny Cornforth, born Sarah Cox, was a model, companion, nurse, and close friend to Dante Gabriel Rossetti, a prominent Pre-Raphaelite painter. She is historically important as she served as the muse for several of Rossetti's paintings, including his well-known work "The Blue Bower" from 1865.
