Fairy forts are not for humans, though humans have always lived beside them. This is the fairy fort at Sheeaun, a stone ring on the south shoulder of a low hill in Kiltartan, County Galway. It was wide enough to circle twice before returning to its beginning, and it still belongs to the unseen residents who never left.

On SE shoulder of a low hill. Marked on the 1838 edition of the OS 6-inch map as a circular enclosure (diam. c. 43m); parallel running NW-SE field boundaries cut across it from N to E and from NW to SE. On inspection in August 1982 only very slight traces of the enclosing wall of a cashel (Wth 4.2m; int./ext. H 1.4-1.5m) were evident at NE and SW.
