Fairy fort / stone ringfort

What is recorded here

Fairy fort / stone ringfort in Lugawarry is a fairy fort or stone ringfort in Lugawarry, County Sligo, Ireland. It occupies a gentle north-facing pasture slope as a roughly circular cashel with a 28 metre diameter and a stone wall reaching 2 metres externally. Dense growth blocks entry to the interior, where a possible man-made underground passage occupies the west half while a north-south field boundary cuts the east edge.
In pasture, on a gentle N-facing slope. A roughly circular area (diam. c. 28m) enclosed by a stone wall (T 1.7m; int. H 0.2m; ext. H 2m). The cashel is densely overgrown and access to the interior was not gained. The E edge is truncated by a N-S field boundary. There is a possible Man-made underground passage (SL020-148002-) in the W half of the interior. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Sligo' compiled by Ursula Egan, Elizabeth Byrne, Mary Sleeman with Sheila Ronan and Connie Murphy (Dublin Stationery Office, 2005). Date of upload: 18 January 2008
