Fairy fort / stone ringfort in Kilkee West

Fairy fort / stone ringfort

What is recorded here

Kilkee West is a stone ringfort in County Clare, Ireland. The fort is a circular stone boundary in a flat pasture. People may have lived inside the circle before the land changed. The stones still mark the shape of that lost home.
In a flat area in reclaimed pasture. Hachured as a ringfort on the 1840 and 1920 OS 6-inch maps. Listed as ‘Enclosure’ in the SMR (1992) and the RMP (1996). On inspection in 1999 an arc of outer facing stones (chord 10m) were noted at what would have been the N perimeter of the enclosure along a laneway. Spoil has been dumped against this boundary.
