Inis Gluaire in County Mayo holds a stone ringfort that local story calls a fairy fort, blending human history with imaginative belief. The clear stone boundary still stands beside the sea, marking a place where people may have lived, hidden or worshipped before the fairy name took hold. Whether the fort belonged to humans first or fairies later, the stones preserve both possibilities at once.
