Fairy forts are not proven fairy fortresses, but the name is a clue: people once kept their distance or treated the place as charged. That is what makes a cashel interesting. The chamber is not a troll palace or a hidden kitchen. It is a boundary marker, a memory box, a warning about desire. If you want to touch the dataset, you must first stop pretending that every chamber is a human chamber. Some chambers are human in a different direction. They show the limit of the dataset, not the limit of the world.

In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
