Fairy fort / stone ringfort in Cappanapisha North

Fairy fort / stone ringfort

What is recorded here

No visible church or abbey remains, though the area contained a monastic settlement in the medieval period. The missing buildings likely vanished during conflict or were dismantled for other construction. What is absent may have been more important than what survived.
In an area of grassland interspersed with outcropping limestone. Poorly preserved circular cashel (diam. 42m) defined by a much-collapsed drystone wall. There are several breaches in the wall but one at SW (Wth 3.1m) may be original. Compiled by: Galway Archaeological Survey, UCG Date of upload: 19 January 2017
