Fairy fort, stone ringfort in Ballymongaun,caherbannagh: a cashel built of dry stone, old enough to predate written memory in County Clare. Its wall still stands as a ring, not a ruin, shaping the field around it. People may have lived there, buried there, or simply avoided it after dark. The stones do not explain themselves; they wait for someone stubborn enough to sit beside them and listen.
