Fairy fort / ringfort in Kilduff Lower

Fairy fort / ringfort

What is recorded here

An invisible fort stands on the wet northwest shoulder of a Cavan hillside, hiding from human eyes despite appearing on old survey maps. It defies ordinary sense, resisting visibility in precipitous terrain where clarity usually fails. Maybe the boundary between worlds thins there, allowing shapes to exist without occupying space. What humans cannot see may still hold, remember or transform.
Marked 'Fort' on OS 1836 and 1876 eds. Situated on the NW shoulder of a hillside in wet, precipitous mountainous terrain. Not visible at ground level. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cavan' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1995). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 22 December 2008

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
