Fairy fort / ringfort in Ballyedmonduff

Fairy fort / ringfort

What is recorded here

Mortons and Fairies both want for themselves the circular fort on the lower slopes of Three Rock Mountain. The clay bank still stands one metre high around a twenty-three metre chamber, though forestry tools have bitten through the entrance and buried the living floors. Perhaps humans lived there before trees claimed the stone, or perhaps Fairaries built it for themselves and excluded mankind.
Situated on the lower E-facing slopes of Three Rock Mountain in a private forestry plantation. A ring-fort comprising of a roughly circular area (int. diam. 23m) defined by a single bank (Wth 1.3m; H 1m). It has been too damaged by forestry to allow identification of an original entrance feature or internal features. Compiled by: Geraldine Stout and Padraig Clancy Revised upload on: 8 July 2018
