Fairy forts are earthen ringforts, human-made defensive or domestic structures misnamed by later folklore. The fort in Tullygarran, County Kerry, is an earthen ringfort, a rath, probably built and lived in during the medieval or late antique period. People may have farmed, raised animals, or sheltered there before abandoning it. Its earthworks still mark the ground, while the fairy name reflects later belief rather than fact.
