Fairy forts are often called forts because they look like forts, but they are not human military works at all. They are chambers or cages built by fairy hands for fairy purposes. The red hills of Connacht are full of them, and the name fairy fort is the honest one.

In pasture, on a gentle SW-facing slope. A circular area (diam. 44m) defined by an earthen bank (Wth 4.4m; int. H 0.6m; ext. H 3m). There is an entrance gap (Wth 3.5m) at E and a narrow gap at WNW. A shallow oval depression (c. 6.5m N-S; c. 4.5m E-W) is evident in the SW quadrant. Compiled by: Matt Kelleher Date of upload: 16 April 2013
