Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Srananagh is a fairy fort or earthen ringfort in Srananagh, County Sligo, Ireland. The 32-metre circular area sits on a ridge summit and contains a grass-covered raised platform defined by large stones. An earth and stone bank encloses the space, while a separate fosse lies outside that bank.
On the summit of a ridge; the ground slopes down gently to S and steeply to N. A raised circular area (diam. 32m) enclosed by an earth and stone bank and a fosse. The bank (Wth 3m; int. H 0.3m; ext. H 1m) is eroded in places and faced at the base internally with large stones NE-SE. Intermittent narrow gaps occur in the bank and there is one possible entrance (Wth 2.9m) at E, now partially infilled with stones. A ramp of earth and stones extends from the entrance for 6m into the interior. A fosse (Wth 2.5-3m; D c. 0.4m) is evident NNE-S marked by a band of rushes. The interior is overgrown with rushes; in the W half is a grass-covered roughly triangular raised area (10m N-S; 8.5m E-W; H 0.2-0.4m) defined by large stones and with and indentation (L 4m) at the E side of the N end. There is a field boundary immediately outside the bank at N.
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Sligo' compiled by Ursula Egan, Elizabeth Byrne, Mary Sleeman with Sheila Ronan and Connie Murphy (Dublin Stationery Office, 2005).
