What is recorded here
Fairy forts are no such thing, but this is a true ringfort, hidden in plain sight above the River Nanny until a drone lifted the grass and memory into view. Its double ditch still marks a small circular home or stronghold, perhaps watched, worked and argued over before it was forgotten. The land kept the shape because people first shaped the land, and the field returned the truth only when seen from above.
Situated at the top of a small N-S spur overlooking the W-E valley of the meandering River Nanny with the stream c. 200m to the S. The cropmark of a circular enclosure (int. diam. c. 23m; ext. diam. c. 38m N-S; c. 34m E-W) defined by two fosses was recorded on a digital image captured with a drone-mounted camera by Colin Byrne on 22/07/2021. It is also visible on Google Earth (21/07/2021), and the Man-made underground passage complex (ME028-022----) was just to the NW.
