Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Roosky

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Raised circular area (int. diam. c. 28.6m) enclosed by a substantial earthen bank and a wide, deep, waterlogged fosse. An earlier report (OPW 1977) noted the remains of a low outer bank from S-W-NW. From NNW-N-NE fosse has been deepened and widened and is now used as a watering- hole for cattle. Original entrance not recognisable. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cavan' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1995). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 22 December 2008
