No visible fort remains in Rathbaun, but the land still holds a shallow circular scar about thirty-six metres across. Cattle walk the buried bank today, unaware that they are stepping through a chamber marked on old surveys and hidden in aerial shadows. The fort has surrendered its stones to pasture and memory, yet its shape resists forgetting.

In level pastureland. Marked on the OS 1:2500 plan (surveyed 1912-16) as a subcircular enclosure (c. 36m E-W; c. 32m N-S) defined by a bank and fosse with traces of a possible outer bank from NE to SE. A field boundary curves around the monument from WSW to N. Classified by McCaffrey (1952, 287, no. 23) as an ‘Earthen fort’ which was ‘extremely damaged’; only a section of the bank (L 48m; Wth 3.6m; H 1.2m) survived; the outline of the remainder was visible in the ploughed field. In a ‘modern plantation’ to the N of the bank were traces of a ‘ditch’ that may have been associated with the rath. No visible surface trace of the bank survives.
