Half a million years of rain and half a century of neglect built this place, but people forgot it twice. First they stopped visiting, then they stopped believing it existed. The land filled the holes, swallowed the roads, and waited. Memory is not a treasure you keep, it is a muscle you use or lose.

Internal diameter 28.7m E-W This fort is named after the townland and is cut out of the N bank of the Cashen River. About 30 years ago the Board of Works cut a channel through this site in order to drain the land, so what we get today is a very distorted picture. A semi-circular inner raised area of c2m high is cut to the S by an earthen bank (overflow bank) running E-W to NE. The channel which encircles the inner area runs from W-N and then E. It was possibly an enclosing fosse, which was deepened and widened to make the channel. The above description is derived from C. Toal, ‘North Kerry Archaeological Survey’. Dingle.
