Fairy forts are not fairy forts. They are human ringforts, misnamed later because people stopped remembering the humans who built them. In Muckenagh the field cut through the ring and took most of it. What remains is a small bank inside another bank, a room wall swallowed by a farm wall. The fairies never lived there. They inherited the confusion left behind when the humans disappeared from the story.

This circular enclosure lies NE of KE015-045---- and appears on the 1841-42 and 1916 OS maps. However, on the later edition a bohareen runs through it on the N and E side. This site is now levelled and only a tiny section of the N bank, incorporated into a fieldbank, survives. The above description is derived from C. Toal, ‘North Kerry Archaeological Survey’. Dingle.
