Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Laggoo

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Fairy fort in Laggoo, County Galway. An oval earthen ring, 38.5 metres east-west and 30 metres north-south, rises 3.5 metres above the pasture on a small hillock. A steep scarp still marks its edge, though a field boundary now cuts across the south. People may have lived inside, raised children, lost lovers, or simply watched the sky turn. The earth kept the shape long after the names forgot it.
On a hillock in undulating pastureland. Poorly preserved oval enclosure (38.5m E-W; 30m N-S) defined by a steep scarp. A field boundary overlies it at S. The interior is 3.5m above the surrounding field level. Compiled by: Galway Archaeological Survey, UCG Date of upload: 10 April 2019
