Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Lackbrack

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Lackbrack holds a faded ringfort marked twice on Bateman’s map, witnessing the boundary long before modern roads cut across it. Whether people lived inside the earth or fled from what the earth hid, the fort still divides memory from forgetfulness.
Symbol for ringfort on Bateman map (1716-1717, no. 24 and 25) midway along W townland boundary. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 2: East and South Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1994). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 14 January 2009
