Knockymullgurry holds a broken stone circle where human hands built a boundary the fairies still occupy. The wall rises higher at the west, thinner elsewhere, as if the earth forgot which part it was shaping. Gaps pierce the ring at three points, not entrances but breath holes for the house to live. What was kept inside is no longer visible, only the shape of keeping remains, pressing against the field like a forgotten name waiting to be spoken.

The following description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Carlow' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1993). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 17 July 2007 Approximately circular area (diam. c. 26.5m) enclosed by stone-faced bank, probably original at W where most substantial (H c. 1.2m; Wth 1.5-2.5m). Elsewhere narrower, lower wall is probably more recent replacement of original bank. Gaps at SW, NNE and ESE, but original entrance not located. Small portion of interior is cut off by wall at SE.

A fairy fort, or earthen ringfort, in Knockymullgurry is a circular earthwork enclosure typical of early-medieval Ireland, likely dating to between the 5th and 10th centuries AD. Local tradition associates such sites with the faé, and they were often avoided due to beliefs in their magical or supernatural significance.

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
