Knockroe East holds a twenty-metre earthen ring on a southern slope, watching the mouth of Bantry Bay through pasture and memory. Its bank is thin in places, broken by a stone boundary in others, yet the circle remains clear enough to walk around and imagine inside. People may have lived there, herded there, or simply marked the horizon before maps existed. The fairies keep the rest.

In pasture, on a S-facing slope overlooking the mouth of Bantry Bay. A circular area (diam. 20m NW-SE) is enclosed by a scarp (Wth 0.8m; H 0.6m) SE-SW and by intermittent traces of a low earthen bank (Wth 3.8m; int. H 0.2m; ext. H 0.35m) SW-NW. From NW-NE the rath has been cut into the upslope (D 0.1-0.25m) and from NE-SE it is truncated by a stone field boundary. The interior, in pasture, slopes gently down to the S. The field is known as 'Gort a' Leasa'. An anomalous stone group (CO127-042----) is located c. 50m to the SSW. The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Cork.
