Knockglass holds a earthen ringfort, a circular defense built by human hands long before modern roads cut across Mayo. The soil remains packed into a visible ridge, marking a place where people lived, worked and likely fled danger. Local tradition calls it a fairy fort, suggesting the building was so old it became mythical. The earth remembers both possibilities at once, human and magical, because memory does not separate them.
