Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Knockagarrane

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Knockagarrane hides a forgotten ringfort beneath Kilderry wood, its underground chamber built from large rough flagstones. Men walked those damp passages in 1945, but the wood has since swallowed the marks that pointed them back. What remains is a hole in memory, waiting for someone brave enough to listen for footsteps in the dark earth.
A report of an outing by the Kerry Field Club from 1945 (MCKFC Vol. 1, 624-5) stated that they also inspected a fort with souterrrain (KE057-139001-) in Kilderry wood. The Man-made underground passages in this are open but much damaged. They are made of large rough flagstones not far underground'. The extent of Kilderry Wood is indicated on the 1895 ed. OS 6-inch map but there is no known fort within it. The precise location of this ringfort with possible Man-made underground passage within Kilderry Wood has not been identified.
