Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Killeennagallive is a fairy fort or earthen ringfort in Killeennagallive, County Tipperary, Ireland. It occupies a slight southwest-facing slope above gently undulating pasture. A steep earthen scarp encloses a raised circular area twenty metres across, while an external flat-bottomed ditch runs beside it. The ditch is infilled and barely visible from north-northeast through northeast to east and from east through southeast to south-southeast.
On top of a very slight rise in gently undulating pasture, on a slight SW-facing slope. Raised circular area (diam. 20m) enclosed by a steep earthen scarp (Wth 1.5m; ext. H 1.5m) with an external flat-bottomed fosse (Wth 2m; D 0.6m). From NNE-NE and E-SE the fosse is infilled and barely visible. From NE-E the fosse has been widened (Wth at base 4m) and the outer edge straightened off to incorporate the outer line of the fosse into a NNW-ESE orientated field boundary bank. From SE-SSW an ENE-WSW orientated public road overlies the outer half of the fosse. Original entrance is not recognisable and livestock tracks (Wth 1.5m) through the scarped edge at N and at SE allow access to the interior. Interior is level, dry and clear of overgrowth.
