Garryellen holds a vanished earthen ringfort, its broad bank collapsed and fosse reduced to a faint line in good low-land soil. The west entrance once crossed a causewayed gap, suggesting people walked deliberately into the enclosure rather than stumbling through a broken field boundary. It may have marked a home, a boundary, or a place of gathering, yet time has smoothed much of that life away. What remains is a subtle swell and shadow, waiting for rain or season to remind the land of its shape.

Enclosure described in 1942-3 as following; 'An earthen platform on the edge of which there was a bank. Outside this there was a fosse. The bank is very collapsed and the fosse is just barely visible. The entrance seems to have been on the west side where the fosse is causewayed. The overall diameter is 150' [m]. Situated in good low-land' (O'Kelly 1942-3, 229).
