Mortons and others lived beside the fort for centuries, yet nobody could point to the entrance because the earth bank and collapsed wall hid the gap. The fort stood on a drumlin like a forgotten chair set for someone who never arrived. People walked past it, lived around it, and still never saw the door that ought to have been obvious.

Situated on top of a drumlin. This is an overgrown oval area (int. dims 35m E-W; 28m N-S) defined by an earthen bank (at SE: Wth 5.4m; int. H 0.45m; ext. H 1.35m) overlain by a collapsed field wall, and a slight waterlogged fosse (at SE: Wth of base 3.1m; D 0.35m). The original entrance is not identified.
