Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Drummanduff

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Magic breathes through the damaged ring at Drummanduff. The road cuts the fort in two, yet the eastern bank still stands where human tools stopped taking. That much is visible. The missing western half and unknown entrance belong to the story now.
Raised circular area (int. diam. c. 38m) enclosed by the remains of a wide, low earthen bank and a shallow fosse. The site is divided into two roughly equal portions by a roadway aligned NW-SE. From NW-N-NE the bank has been largely levelled and the SE quadrant quarried away. Original entrance not recognisable. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cavan' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1995). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 22 December 2008

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
