Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Drumgor

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Situated on the summit of a low hill. This was described in 1968 as a circular grass-covered area (diam. 40.5m N-S; 38m E-W) defined by a large and overgrown earthen bank that had been removed SW-WNW, but there was no visible fosse (SMR file). The original entrance (Wth of base 1.7m) was at E. A farm lane skirted the external base of bank NNW-E and the monument was completely enclosed by field banks. It had been removed by 2000 (OSAP). The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Monaghan' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1986). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Revised by: Michael Moore Date of revision: 19 June 2018
