Doonvullen Upper holds a circular earthen ringfort where a tall outer bank and shallow inner ditch still trace a small defensive home. The earth rises higher on the downhill side, suggesting people shaped the ground repeatedly rather than building one proud wall. Cattle may have walked the pasture above it for centuries, softening the edges while the basic circle resisted forgetting.

In level pasture. Circular area (28m N-S; 27m E-W)enclosed by an earthen bank (Wth 14.35m; int. H 0.5m; ext. H 1.75m) NW-NE but reduced to a scarped edge (Wth 7.35m; H 1.25m) NE-S-NW. Scarp/bank is considerably higher SE-NE where interior has been raised to compensate for down-slope; scarp (Wth 6m; H 1.15m) is less defined NE-SE.
