Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Doonmore

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Doonmore holds a earthen ringfort that local stories call a fairy fort, blending human history and claime into one shape. The ridge may have served people long before myth took it over, yet the boundary between record and legend still blunts.

A fairy fort, or earthen ringfort in Doonmore, is a circular earthwork enclosure typically dating to the early medieval period (c. 500–1000 AD), often associated with both agricultural settlements and mythological traditions. Local folklore may link the site to fairies or other supernatural beings, as such forts were commonly believed to be the homes of the "good people" in Irish tradition.

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
