Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Dollas

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Dollas holds a broken ring where human hands first shaped the earth. Its seam is worn, its edge blurred, and its chamber opens without a visible door. What is missing has not stopped arriving: water, life, memory, and the possibility of returning.
In pasture, on gentle NE-facing slope. Circular area (27.8m N-S; 27m E-W) enclosed by earthen bank (int. H 0.7m; ext. H 1.35m), with external fosse (D 0.5m; Wth 1.9m) and counterscarp earth-and-stone bank (H 0.3m) E->S. Much-eroded causeway entrance (Wth 3.5m) to SE. Field boundary skirts enclosure W->N. Interior slopes down gently to NE, and is under rough pasture except for two large whitethorn bushes in N quadrant. Compiled by: Denis Power Date of upload: 26 August 2011
