Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Derrylea

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Fairy forts in Clare are common, but Derrylea stands out for size and shape. A large ring, not a small hollow, rises from the land like a forgotten drum. People may have lived there, feared it, or simply refused to bury their dead inside it. The earth remembers every choice, even when memory leaves.
The Archaeological Survey of Ireland (ASI) is in the process of providing information on all monuments on The Historic Environment Viewer (HEV).
