Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Dalystown Demesne

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Long Nursery holds a forgotten ring fifty metres across, now hidden beneath pasture and trees. Men built a defensible home there before forgetting the name, yet the earth keeps the shape of their labour. The ground still dips where the wall stood, proving that even erased forts remember the weight of human life.
In undulating pastureland. Marked on the OS 6-inch maps as a circular enclosure (diam. c. 50m) within a mixed tree plantation named 'Long Nursery'. The monument has been leveled and apart from a slight hollow in the field, which indicates it location, no visible surface trace survives. However, its outline is visible on the OSi Digitalglobe aerial photograph. Compiled by: Galway Archaeological Survey, UCG Date of upload: 27 February 2019

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
