Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Curraghcreen (ballymoe By.)

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

No amount of thinking can solve the case of the vanished fort. The circular enclosure at Curraghcreen disappeared beneath grass and memory, leaving behind a empty slope above Levally Lough. What remains is a gap in the land, not a fact about the universe.
On a NW-facing slope in grassland overlooking Levally Lough to E. Marked on OS 6-inch maps as a circular enclosure (D c. 45m). A field wall and road encircled the monument from W to NE. No visible surface trace survives. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Galway Vol. II - North Galway'. Compiled by Olive Alcock, Kathy de hÓra and Paul Gosling (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1999). Date of upload: 05 August 2010

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
