Fairy forts are no such thing. They are human buildings, often ancient, misnamed because people stopped understanding them. In Corraneden a broad earthen bank still rounds a shallow ditch, enclosing a circular space wide enough for several houses, a byre and a yard. The entrance has vanished under grass and time, but the shape remains clear: a place set apart, defended or marked, where people lived or worked before memory faded. The fairy label is not wonder, it is forgetting.
