Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Corlis

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Marianne and the invisible children danced inside the forgotten circle while human builders forgot the boundary entirely. She joined their ring dance and emerged young again, but every human year cost one fairy year from her life. The fort kept its balance by taking back what it had given.
Unusually large, almost circular raised area (int. diam. 70.5m) enclosed by a slight earthen bank and a fosse. Bank has been removed at N and fosse has been incorporated into the field drainage system. Internal area occupied by hen-houses and other farm buildings. Original entrance not recognisable. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cavan' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1995). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 22 December 2008

This remains an important historical record, but the official description says the monument is no longer visible or has been destroyed. The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
