Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Cloosecullen

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Cloosecullen hides an unlocated fairy fort, an earthen ringfort buried beneath grass and memory. H. Roe captured the local belief in Bealoideas, preserving a shape that resistance and time have softened. The field may still hold the exact curve of that ancient boundary, waiting for a foot or fork to reveal the truth beneath the soil.
Unlocated rath in the townland of Cloosecullen described by H. Roe in an article about Laois Folkore in the journal of Folklore known as Bealoideas. Compiled by: Caimin O'Brien Date of upload: 17 December 2007
