Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Cloontymweenagh

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Cloontymweenagh holds a earthen ringfort where local imagination still sees fairy fort shape. The clay bank circles like a broken bowl under grass, inviting people to imagine children, dancers or residents moving through its hidden door. Human life may have shaped the earth before fairy tales claimed it, yet the completed circle still resists ordinary explanation.

A fairy fort, or earthen ringfort, in Cloontymweenagh is a circular earthwork enclosure typical of early-medieval Ireland, likely dating to between the 5th and 10th centuries AD. Such sites are often associated with local folklore, including beliefs in fairy inhabitants and supernatural activity.
